CIVIC FAMILY HEALTH CARE

6 MONTH’S DOWN - 6 TO GO! WHAT A YEAR IT’S BEEN.

As we head into July, we are well aware of the chill in the air and that winter is here. The Matariki star cluster has been a beautiful sight for those who have been able to view it over the last week or so, but the start of the cooler months has definitively brought on more challenges for Health Care and we hope you will take a moment to read through our latest newsletter which will highlight some of these challenges. However, we also have lots to celebrate as our team continues to work together for the best health for you, your family, our community and our team.

HIGHLIGHTS IN THIS NEWSLETTER

• Respiratory infections & Mask wearing

• Monthly Health Promotion

• Meet the Team

• MyIndici

• Southern Cross

CIVIC NEWSLETTERS

Our newsletters continue to be well-received by patients and we’re continuously working on getting this out to as many patients as possible. If patients wish not to receive these emails and updates, please select the “Unsubscribe” button located at the bottom of this email to remove your email address from our mailer list.

There’s some valuable information shared in these updates and our aim is to not flood your inbox with unnecessary emails, but to keep you updated every once in a while, as to what’s happening here at Civic.

RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS & MASK WEARING

We have been hit as a team with many illnesses over the past month heading into winter.  Although masks are not required to visit us at CIVIC, we encourage patients to wear them to keep everyone and yourselves safe.

Our staff may ask you if you have any coughs, colds or flu-like symptoms and if you do, they may ask you to put a mask on and to sit outside in the foyer. Please do not be offended, this is for the safety of everyone.

We are not just battling COVID - We are hit with the big 3 – COVID, RSV and INFLUENZA as well as lot of viral coughs and colds.

We have vulnerable patients in the Practice and need to protect them.  We also cannot have our staff at risk of becoming ill as when we are short staffed, we must move patients which puts pressure on for everyone.

Please be considerate to those that respect us by choosing to wear masks.  It is really appreciated.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

MONTHLY HEALTH PROMOTION

Our team recently started with monthly health focus campaigns.

What this means is that every month we focus on a specific health topic or condition and throughout the month the team will promote this to patients. This could include discussions between patients and their clinicians. Physical resources patients could take away which will be displayed at our notice board or around the waiting areas. Our website is also jam packed with information that patients can refer back to throughout the year.

Having a monthly health focus enables our team, clinical and administration alike to learn more about certain conditions and share valuable resources amongst each other that’s beneficial for staff and patients. This also enables our team to educate patients regarding certain symptoms and conditions they may not be aware of or help others understand more about various diseases if they have a friend or family member living with such a condition.

This month we are focusing on Women’s Health and particularly Cervical Screening & the new HPV Self-Swab. Our team produced a quick video of what this month holds instore. It’s all very exciting! Follow the links below to our website which will include all the necessary details.

SOUTHERN CROSS

We have quite a few patients who have Southern Cross.   We try to help patients with this by having access directly to the Southern Cross system for claiming.

Unfortunately, the Southern Cross system is not always reliable so please do not be offended if we have to ask you to pay and make the claim yourself.   The issue is not at our end.

Also, we have alerts, etc. on our system to know to make the claim but as the systems are not connected patients may still get incorrectly invoiced. Please just let us know nicely, so we can put it right for you.

If the issues with the Southern Cross system continue, we will switch it off and revert to the old way of doing Southern Cross requiring patients to pay for their appointments, etc. and make their own claims. This is not ideal but due to the angst and unpleasantness the faults in the system causes, and this not being CIVIC’s fault, we are considering this as an option.

FLU VACCINES & COVID BOOSTERS

CIVIC are still offering Influenza vaccines and COVID Boosters. Funded Influenza vaccinations are available for those who meet Pharmac’s eligibility criteria. Fees apply if not eligible. COVID Boosters remain fully funded. Contact CIVIC today if you have any queries or would like to book a consult with the nurse for this.

ALTERNATIVE VIRTUAL CARE

We understand that sickness waits for no one and that patients may need to seek alternative care whilst they are away on holiday or when we are closed. An option that’s available to patients is for Virtual Same Day appointments with PracticePLUS

With PracticePLUS, you’re only a few clicks away from a same day virtual Clinician consultation that suits you. PracticePLUS help tautoko (connect) you with trusted medical care quickly, as an extension to your regular medical centre team and Clinician.

WE WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY 25th OCTOBER 2024

We would like to inform patients that CIVIC will tentatively be closed on Friday the 25th of October 2024. This is due to maintenance upgrades planned for the CBD area by Marlborough Lines and as a result we will have no power.

Alternative options for acute care will be available on that day such as PracticePLUS (as noted above), your local pharmacy for certain ailments, the Marlborough Urgent Care Centre located at the Wairau Hospital or the Emergency Department when all other options are closed.

Visit our website to see what your local pharmacy could help with by clicking HERE

Healthline is also available 24/7 for FREE health advice over the phone when needed. Contact them on 0800 611 116
